ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:

The department of physics  was established in the year 1958 . It aims at imparting quality education and equipping the women students with the necessary skills to face the challenges of the present outside world. The 60 year old department is always in the fore-front for the all round development of its students with the eminent faculties.

·        Dr.R.Suneetha served the department of Physics for more than two   decades,presently working as Principal,GDC, Nandikotkur, Kurnool Dist.

·        Dr. C.P Lakshmi Prasuna, State Best Teacher Awardee(2011),served as  dept. in-charge  ,presently working as Principal, Sri YKR&K Govt. Degree College Kovur SPSR  Nellor district

Highlights:

·         Having well equipped Laboratory ,and department library containing 2265books ,

·         Having MOU’s with Department of Physics of Osmania college,Silver jublee Govt. College & Govt. College for Men,Kurnool

·         S.P Rama Devi, Alumnae of physics dept. qualified NET and achieved 57^th rank in the year 2018 conducted by CSIR, New Delhi.

·         The Faculty encourages use of  ICT facility.

·         The students are encouraged for P.G entrance and they are guided by the faculty

·         Demand for the course.

·         Faculty initiate activities like weekly assignments, seminar , group discussions ,quiz programmes,study projects, model projects, field visits, digital assignments, JAM(just a minute), Flash cards

·         Faculty and students actively participate in plantation and swaccha Bharat.

·         Achievement of nearly 100% results in Semester  End Examinations.

Best Practices of the department:

o    The department of physics prepares the laboratory manual soft copy  in advance and circulate among the students.

o    In addition to the departmental library containig 2265books , the department   maintains another library consisting of  92 books donated by Philanthropist.

o    The students of the department of physics run a spiral binding service centre, they prepare practical records every year and this service is extended to other departments also. 

o    The department of physics provides ICT facility for the hostel students before the working hours of the college to prepare their digital assignments, to check their mails, to prepare PPTs etc., 

o    Endowment prize for the best outgoing student sponsored by the Dr.I NeerajaAlumnae &Retired  teaching faculty of the department in the form of silver model.

o    Encouraging the students by providing proficiency prizes  after every semester results to the toppers.

o    Staff & students celebrate every year National Energy conservation day & National science day.

o    Certificate Course:

A Certificate course on “House Hold wiring” was introduced in the academic year 2019-20 . The duration of the course is 45 days. The number of students enrolled are 86.
