DEPARTMENT OF HOME SCIENCE
The Department of Home Science was started in the year 1958, since the inception of the college. B.Sc. Home Science is a professionally oriented three year degree programme. The main focus is to empower students in multi-disciplinary fields with equal emphasis on Food Science and Nutrition, Human Development and Family studies, Textile and Clothing, Resource management and Consumer science, Extension and Communication Education etc. These courses pave the way for a well-established professional career and open up plenty of employment opportunities in various sectors.
Vision: Home science education is a need-based, professionally oriented life skills education to equip the students with relevant knowledge and competencies to lead happy, healthy and successful life. It conceptualizes the students’ knowledge and skill right from where the human life starts, how it grows, develops and expands with physical, physiological, psychological, social and economic dimensions through different courses.
Mission: It is an artful science enables the learners to improve the quality of their personal and professional life & contribute towards the betterment of the family and community.
Our Aim: To strengthen the skills and potentials of students through the application of scientific principles for their optimum holistic growth and development
Highlights of the Department:
- Dietetic cell was established in the year 2000 to cater to the health and nutrition need of students and staff of this college through scientific need based counseling and guidance.
- Having MOU’s with Department of Women and Child welfare, Kurnool Institute of Fashion technology, Kurnool Medical College and Government Hospital, and Osmania College for Women, Kurnool to collaborate and organise various activities to give enriched learning experience to students.
- Having well equipped laboratory. Itcontain 1986 books and issued to the students for effective learning
- Achievement of nearly 100% results in semester end external exam.
- Organize invited lectures, field trips, workshops, student seminars, elocutions and quiz programs to develop the knowledge and skills of the students. Study projects given to impart research skills among students.
- Organize exhibitions and awareness programs by the students
- Workshops conducted on block printing and tie and dye, candle making, artificial flower making, flower arrangement, anthropometry, creative art activity, and use of psychological test material etc.
- Remedial class for Poor Performer and guidance given for PG and other entrance exams.
- Certificate courses in Gender and Human Rights, Art and Crafts, Fashion Designing, and Personality Development.
- Field trips to Kurnool Medical College, KIFT, Anganwadi and nearby village and slums to give first-hand learning experience to students.
- Thematic celebrations like National Nutrition month, Breast feeding week and Mental Health week etc. are celebrated
- Raised funds, books, clothes for social cause and natural catastrophe. Financial assistance is extended to economically backward students of our department.
